Oh to be young and full of life. To have all the energy and all the the time to focus on the important things in life. Job. Family. Money. House. But what about health? Arguably the most important part of our life gets neglected the most in our peak years.
For many still live in the myth that maladies are for the elderly. When you’re young, you think your body is more resilient and less susceptible to illness. In many cases, that’s even true. But often diseases take root during these youthful years and unleash their damage in the latter stages of life. That’s what makes medical health checkups just as important for youngsters. It’s always best to nip the problem right in the bud. For starters, make it a birthday gift to yourself by getting an annual cholesterol test done. Rising level in your 20s might give you a clue of what might come in the the 40s. The fact that nearly 72% of Indians have low levels of good cholesterol, tells a lot! Follow it up with a regular lipid assessment test; the stats tell that more than 79% of Indians have skewed lipid levels. Ladies should also pay to their thyroid. That’s because women are more susceptible to goiter than men, especially in women before menopause. A simple medical checkup can catch that early. Apart from that, make it a point to get regular checkups for compounds like uric acid, proteins, phosphates, haemoglobin and more. Usually they are covered under full-body tests by leading labs. Keeping a tab on them can warn of any impending deficiency later on in life. After all, prevention is always better than cure, right?
